Abstract
|
The report aims at the following: (1) giving an overview of the structure and the residence status of the foreign population in Austria, (2) gaining information on educational and labour market specific data concerning the foreign population, as well as pointing out contradictory sources of information, (3) estimating the pool of potential employees among the foreign population and the pool of family members willing to come to Austria, (4) looking at the effect of the arrival of new immigrants on the native and resident foreign population as well as on their level of income, (5) estimating the effect of new immigrants on social security and (6) launching ideas concerning the re-thinking of the short- and middle-term 'foreigner policy' and the institutional structure responsible for this kind of policy.
